1. Coastal Sami Experience - FULL!
We would like to introduce you to the Coastal Sami Culture, and bring you the Sami Village Manndalen right outside Tromsø. Experience and learn about their culture by participating, and enjoy spectacular nature along the journey.

SamiEnjoy an overnight stay in Sami tents (lavvo) and traditional “turf huts” (gamme). You will be sleeping on the ground on Reindeer skins/ fur around the fire, listen to and learn about the traditional Sami chant (joik) around the bonfire outside in the evening, hopefully with the Northern Lights flashing over the sky.

You will be eating Sami food for dinner, and get to taste other local specialties that has long traditions in the Sami Culture.

barThe good old Ølhallen... Macks Ølbryggeri is the world’s northernmost brewery, which was established in 1877. The city’s oldest pub, Ølhallen, a place to quench one’s thirst with the best Arctic brews, is run in connection with the brewery. In collaboration with Mack, we offer Ølhallen as a venue for an informal social evening. It’s just a five minute walk from the hotel. At Ølhallen you will enjoy a nice snack whilst catching up with your friends and colleagues.

   
2. SommaroySommarøy - FULL!
Sommarøy
is a small fishing village located in beautiful nature surroundings. It takes approximately 1 hour to get there, either by boat or by bus. We use the facilities of Sommarøy Kurs og Feriesenter for both business groups and leisure travelers. Their sea cabins are of very good standard, and they also offer hotel rooms.

  Day 1 – October 19th
18:00 Departure from Tromsø by bus A bus ride that includes beautiful scenery. The duration is one hour.
20:00 A hot meal is served

You will together with your host walk to the Natur og Utfordring (Nature and Challenge) activity park, and along the way there will be a stop by the local graveyard for a short history lesson. Then you will be served a nice hot meal based on local traditions in a lavvu. If anyone would like to try out the Natur og Utfording activity field, they will have the opportunity to do so. Their activity field consists of high masts (13 meters) with wires between the masts, so you can climb between, and jump from the masts.

After enjoying a good time here, you may withdraw to the hotel premises, where one outdoor and one indoor hot tub await you. How about starting with an ice cold dip in the arctic ocean, and then jump right into a nice and hot bath tub?

If you are lucky, you might enjoy the sight of the spectacular Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). The Tromsø area is one of the best places in the world to see La Aurora Borealis (The Northern Lights), but you never know when she is going to show up.

You will be divided into smaller groups and do the following activities:
  • Guided Sea Eagle safari on top of the Hillesøy hill. There will be nature based activities along the way. Duration: 2.5 – 3 hours. (25-30 pax)
  • Local Culture with guide, museum, local hand craft, art etc. Here you will also meet the local population. Duration 2.5 hours. (25-30 pax)
    Please note that if you also would like to join any of the sea activities, you will have to choose between the Sea Eagle Safari and the Local Culture tour.
  • Sea Cruise with MS Rebell to historical islands and places. 1.5 hours (15 pax)
  • Sea Rafting boat no. 1 with sea eagle safari by Hekkingen Fyr. 1.5 hours (7-8 pax)
  • Sea Rafting boat no. 2 with sea eagle safari by Hekkingen Fyr, 1.5 hours (7-8 pax)
    After approximately 1.5 hours the participants switch sea activity.
  • Fishing trip with local fish boat. 2.5 hours (10 pax).

Opening Day Adventures in Tromsø(FREE for all Summit Delegates!)

Visit TromsoTromsø is the starting point for the Adventure Travel World Summit-Europe, and Visit Tromsø warmly welcomes you to their wonderful city! Tromsø is located above the Polar Circle, and is one of the best places in the world to spot the Northern Lights. The position above the Polar Circle also provides months of nearly total darkness, as the sun stays below the horizon. In the summer, the sun does not go below the horizon, allowing the beautiful and glowing Midnight Sun to be enjoyed by all.

All Adventure Travel World Summit – Europe delegates may participate in one of the two adventure options on
Tuesday, October 21st starting at 12:00PM-3:30PM free of charge. Each of the Adventure Day options include transportation and adventure activity. Adventures are available on a “first in- first served” basis.

Please meet at the Rica Hotel 30 minutes prior to adventure departure.

Delegates may choose one or both of the Opening Day Adventures in Tromsø.

1. Tromsø Sightseeing at 12:00 noon
Kick off your time in Tromsø with a sightseeing tour that includes a visit to the Knowledge Centre Polaria, and a trip to the Cable Car.

SealA polar experience centre runs in conjunction with the Norwegian Polar Institute. You can watch Ivo Caprino’s majestic panoramic film of Svalbard and see the bearded seals and Arctic fish species in the many aquariums.

Cable Car

Ride the cable car up to Storsteinen, which is 420 m above sea level, for a breath-taking panoramic view of Tromsø and the surrounding area. The view is so good that it has to be seen to be believed!
Please note that if there is wind of more than 20 m/s, the Cable Car cannot go due to security reasons.
   
2. Midnight Sun Concert in the Arctic Cathedral at 4:00PM
concertThe Arctic Cathedral Midnight Sun concert runs every night during the summer. Even though the Midnight Sun is long gone in October, Visit Tromsø would like to give you a taste of this relaxing and comfortable concert.

Experience:
Sunnfjord is a county of waterfalls, with great fishing and hiking opportunities. The Nordfjord is an area of contrast, from the rough sea, to quiet valleys and lakes, until you again arrive at steep mountains and the glaciers. In this area you can experience Westcape – the most western point of Norway, surfing, glacier walks, hiking in the mountains and experience a hint of the coastal culture. Transport: Within walking distance or guide bus. Return to Bergen with aircraft of the Bergensbanen (train) – return on own expenses. Aircraft or use the Bergensbanene and take the train from Bergen to Oslo. Please look out for the special offer from NSB, the national train operator.

Experience: Bergen is a city of culture and a city surrounded by 7 mountains and the most beautiful nature and scenery on its doorstep. Enjoy a day of experiencing this amazing combination of culture and nature.
Get a refreshing start of the day, taking the Funicular to the top of mount Fløyen. Experience the wonderful panoramic views of all of Bergen and the magnificent surrounding landscape of fjords and mountains. Mount Fløyen is an excellent point of departure for outdoor pursuits and invigorating countryside experiences. The many footpaths and marked routes make the area popular for walkers. We will take a walk around an idyllic lake, before getting back to the city centre, where the guide will take you on an exciting walk through the city’s historical heart. Lunch will be enjoyed at “Spisestedet På Høyden”, who offers ecological Norwegian food, exclusively based on ingredients grown in Norway. Our last stop is at Troldhaugen, the home of composer Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) and his wife Nina. Grieg lived here for 22 years and composed many of his best-known works in the little garden. What is included?
Accommodations, adventures and main meals.

What is not included?
The travel expenses not included would be accommodations the night of October 25th –
(a special option from Hurtigruten is to stay aboard the Midnatsol for an additional $60.00 including breakfast), transport from the hotel to the airport on the day of departure, travel insurance, phone calls, personal expenses, alcoholic drinks, etc.

Who can participate?
Tour operators, specially travel agents and journalists from all over the world interested in learning and selling more ecotourism and adventures in Norway, or wishing to expand its Norway portfolio, these adventures are free of charge. For all other ATWS – E delegates there will be a nominal fee of $100 per day per person for selected adventures.

Clothing
For the post trips we would recommend that you bring the following gear for your comfort and enjoyment of the adventure:
  • Waterproof jackets and trousers
  • Hats and mittens/gloves
  • Good waterproof/water resistant Hiking boots or other booths good for walking
  • Good warm clothing like wool underwear, wool sweaters etc.

Minimum Participation
Fjord Norway has the right to cancel an adventure if the minimum quota of participants is not met. Those few delegates will be transferred to another adventure of equal length and similar program to accommodate travel itineraries.

NSB (Norwegian State Railway) is providing “the world’s best train ride”- from Bergen to Oslo. NSB’s seven-hour train crosses over the mountains through an extraordinarily scenic national park. It’s a comfortable and relaxed train ride on modern, high standard trains (consider Scandinavian train standard 2nd class to be comparable with 1st class Amtrak).
